At Millhouse Primary School we endeavour to make learning fun, with a rich variety of activities both within the curriculum and as part of our extended school day. We follow the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ Agenda.

Golden Rules

All members of the school are involved with the discussion and establishment of these rules and all parents are issued a copy. The rules are displayed in every classroom and around school. The Golden Rules, which cover respect for people, property and work are explicitly taught through Circle Time activities.

WE ARE HEALTHY

Girl runningWe provide a wealth of experiences to encourage lifelong healthy living.

Promoting emotional wellbeing is very important to us.
We offer a range of sporting events and fixtures, and have been awarded the Sports Activemark.
We hold an annual ‘Healthy Week’.
Fresh fruit is provided for our Infant children. Milk is on offer to all.
Our ‘Groovy Gardeners’ are converting an area of field into a senses garden.

WE ENJOY AND ACHIEVE

Our goal is for every child to achieve their best and to enjoy their time in school.

Play AreaWe provide a stimulating learning environment. Our children love our spacious field which has adventure play equipment, a Friends’ Area, a Virtual Pond and a wild area. Indoors we have quality interactive displays, an ICT suite and up to date library.
Children receive a balanced relevant curriculum, enriched through first hand experiences. Different learning styles are accommodated and children are encouraged to take an active role in all learning.
All children can take part in ‘Golden Time’, our extra curricular programme and Family Learning events.

Our assessment and tracking systems ensure we provide the best learning opportunities and offer challenge and support.
We have regular meetings with parents and have an open door policy, where carers can meet staff at a mutually agreeable time.

WE PROMOTE ECONOMIC WELL BEING

We develop key skills to ensure economic well being.

All children learn French.
ActivitiesLocal engineers run our ‘Imagineering’ club.
We undertake regular visits to the world of work – The Post Office, factory visits, Barnsley’s Design Centre.
Children plan and manage their own stalls at regular coffee mornings.
We promote concern for the local area – Local Heritage Project, visits in local area, charity involvement.
Our Breakfast and After School Club is open to all, as is the mobile library.

WE MAKE A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION

Decision making is always encouraged.
Pupils can be monitors and mentors, play leaders and School Councillors.
We develop community engagement in many ways – for example charity work, school ambassadors go into the community, Well Dressing, Christmas in church.
Achievement is recognised with praise, certificates, rewards, and stickers.
