Millhouse Primary School
Class 3

Welcome to Cass 3 (Year 5 & 6 Children)

This term we are working on an exiting project loosely based on the "Make-It-Real" programme.

The children have become citizens of a fictitious town they have named Buffleton. Within this town the children take on the roles of adults to deal with real-life situations and problems.

Each child has had to apply for a job, searching out the appropriate advert in class, filling out a C.V. and writing a formal letter of application. With commitment and enthusiasm everyone has taken turns to be receptionists, interviewers and interviewees. We have now formed companies to work on projects in Buffleton.

The jobs have enabled the children to earn credits so they can now make life-style choices about the house they can afford. They will shortly be forming neighbourhood groups that will have a variety of community problems to deal with through debate, letters to the Buffleton newspaper or the council, eventually representing their community at a council meeting.

This project covers a wide variety if skills and subject areas - drama, role-play, debate, team work, Literacy, History and Geography. The children are really enjoying this project, becoming totally absorbed in the role-play which has resulted in some very adult literacy skills.

We are also very proud that last week's supply teacher said of the class, "Everyone was polite and well-mannered. They are a wonderful class and have been a pleasure to teach."
